The Celebration

Ghana @ 70 tells Ghana's story through music, culture, history, people and opportunity — and explains why that story belongs, this time, in New York.

Why Ghana @ 70 Matters

On 6th March 1957, Ghana went first.

Ghana became the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence from colonial rule — a moment whose significance travelled far beyond Ghana's borders. Ghana became a symbol of African independence, self-determination and Pan-African aspiration.

Seventy years later, that story is marked in New York City. New York is the right stage: an international city with a substantial African and African-American population, a leading business ecosystem, global media influence, and a natural gateway between Africa and the Americas.

Vision

To establish the Ghana @ 70 High Life Celebration as a premier international platform celebrating Ghanaian culture, Highlife music, African heritage and Ghana's enduring relationship with the African diaspora.

Mission

To use music, culture, entertainment and business networking to bring Ghana, Africa, African-Americans and the wider diaspora closer together — while creating meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange, investment, entrepreneurship and collaboration.

The Highlife Journey

Four stages, one sound.

Highlife is not simply entertainment — it is part of Ghana's cultural identity, and the thread that runs through the whole celebration.

01

Traditional Rhythms

Indigenous Ghanaian drumming and percussion foundations, the roots from which every later style grows.

02

Early Highlife

Brass bands, palm-wine guitar and the birth of a distinctly Ghanaian popular sound.

03

Classic Highlife

The golden age of Ghanaian orchestras, storytelling and danceable melody.

04

Contemporary

Modern Highlife and today's African sounds, carried worldwide by artists like Amandzeba Nat Brew and Sherifa Gunu.
